First
sculpting cows at art college, It was a delight
to recreate their form. Their strong bony structure
underlying voluptuous curves gives a fantastic
relationship between line and mass. I have always
found cows have an incredible presence and enjoy
capturing their individual characters. My Scottish
ancestors were cattle breeders and bred the
Belted Galloway, perhaps this interest in cows
has been past down to me.
Inspired by Durer's pen and ink drawings of
animals I started experimenting with inks. I
find them to be a very expressive and vibrant
medium in which to work. I love the fluidity
of ink that gives unpredictable and surprising
results; each of the pictures takes on their
own character with the splatters and drips.
I then work over the pictures with charcoal
to add depth and structure to each piece.
I
have achieved success in selling my work, exhibiting
with galleries across the country. I am currently
studying an MA in Illustration at Brighton University. e-mail
