My
initial development as an artist owed much
to the inspiring tutelage of the late Karen
Simmons. Since then I am largely self-taught.
After finishing a full-time job at St. Bede's
School in Upper Dicker, founded with my husband
in the 70's, I have been able to devote significant
periods of time to developing my work.
I
have exhibited over the years with The Eastbourne
Group,at the Autumn Art Show in East Grinstead, with
the Guild of Sussex Artists,at the Tisch Beere
Gallery in Cardiff, the Alfriston Gallery
and at numerous other local exhibitions. Last
year I became part of the exciting new co-operative
at Chalk Gallery in Lewes. The
large part of my work is in watercolour and
my inspiration is taken from the wonderful
colour combinations that I see around me both
in the landscape, still life and flowers.
Shapes lost and found in the washes and the
interplay of light and colour are a constant
source of amazement and pleasure.. I strive
to portray in all my work an atmospheric quality
and a feeling of light in and around the forms
- a simple yet tantalizing aim. |
