Miranda Ellis

I trained at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts and at the Royal College of Art. I have had painting scholarships in Italy and South Africa and have exhibited in various exhibitions in London and Sussex, including the Mall Galleries, the Royal Academy 'Summer Show' and the Sussex Open Shows at the Brighton Art Gallery. I was a National Prize Winner and First Prize Regional Winner at the 'Laing Art Competition' and Winner of the 'Art Newspaper Award' at the 'Discerning Eye'.

Painting influences began with the German Expressionists in which I used colour to express mood and then light. This led to colour fields and some abstraction but now as a result of direct from life studies I'm back to a renewed interest in form, usually non-static and the root reason for that 'poetic' moment. Subjects and inspiration range from shock encounters in foreign lands to the very familiar. There is a narrative element in which a particular moment is expressed, but ultimately I hope that light, colour, form and mood are frozen to express my own space and experience.
